Plagiarism, Is it common sense

Say I wanted to write a price saying that Thomas Jefferson was a Hypocrite for owning slaves while promoting equality in the Declaration of Independance, would this be taking someone else's Ideas, or would it fall under common knowledge reasoning

ask your teacher to be sure as I do not know the perimeters of your assignment.

That aside - to me, if you use your own logic supported by facts that are noted appropriately as required by your assignment it should not be plagiarism - as long as you are not using someone else's ideas on why you are supporting this thesis.

Best to check with your teacher before you get too deep into the subject.
