I watched TVplay called Friends in my vacation. I saw a lot of food in it. I even saw Monica used chopsticks. So I want to know about some normal native food in America.
Thank you.

@kyfcoffee,
First things first . . .

I watched a TV show called "Friends" during my vacation. I saw a lot of food being eaten. I even saw Monica using chopsticks. So I want to know about some types of food normally eaten in America. Thank you.

Did you mean "About cafes in America?"

Many Americans have learned to properly use chopsticks. As for what one eats in America, my goodness, just about anything. The United States is a nation of immigrants. You can get Chinese food, Italian food, French food, Thai food, Greek food, food from the middle east, food from south Asia, good food, bad food, weird food.

Let's start with western breakfast (snicker).

http://wcsuathletics.com/sports/sball/2012-13/big-breakfast-big-daily-meals-590_rotator.jpg

Here we have bacon and eggs, sliced tomato and fried mushrooms, and two rather small and skimpy pancakes with too much butter, but no syrup. It looks good to me, although the eggs are a little overdone for my taste. Bad for your health, wonderful to eat.

Biscuits and gravy is another popular breakfast food in the United States, especially in the southern states.

This is also bad for your health. I love biscuits and gravy.

Here we haven't gotten past breakfast, and i'm already about to go into cardiac arrest!

@Setanta,
Thank you for your reply. And thank you for helping me correct the grammar mistakes. I want to know the food in America. I am sorry I use a wrong word. I think the dessert is very delicious. Can you tell me about this?

You don't have to apologize. I assume that you come here, at least in part, to improve your knowledge of the English language. I corrected the text of your opening post to help you to learn.

There are also many desserts found in America, once again, because Americans come from many different cultures.

Baklava is a popular dessert which come from the Greek culture. It is made with a thin dough called filo dough, and contains honey and walnuts.

Many of the European cultures from which Americans' ancestors came make desserts with pastry dough--another unleavened dough, like the Greek dough, but much heavier. A common saying in the United States is that something is "as American as apple pie."

Ice cream is very popular, too. Apple pie is often served with ice cream.

Another popular pie dessert is pumpkin pie, traditionally served in the autumn, especially for the Thanksgiving holiday in November. It is often served with whipped cream.

Cakes are also popular, chocolate cake being a favorite.

Desserts represent an almost inexhaustible topic of conversation, but i'm going to stop for now.

@kyfcoffee,
First and foremost? What country are you from? What do you assume food in America to consist of?

We Americans are exposed to an insane amount of international cuisines. Much of what we consider to be American cuisine has enveloped many international influences to some degree or another. But American cuisine tends to be short hand for comfort foods like hamburgers, a million or so desserts, etc....

@Setanta,
Thank you very much again. You are so warmhearted. I really want to learn some language knowledge from you. I am a freshman and major in English but I am not good at it. If you can tell me some methods about it, I think I will make progress.

@kyfcoffee,
Hi kyfcoffee.

Welcome to able2know. We sometimes call it a2k for a shortform.

Having online conversations like this is a good way to practice your English.

One thing that can be a bit confusing is that English in different countries/regions can be quite different. Sometimes spelling varies, sometimes grammar is applied differently, sometimes there are regional idioms you need to be aware of.

__

For breakfast today, I had smoked ham, gouda cheese and apple butter on bread with a cup of tea.

One of the main differences I've noticed between Chinese food and food in North America and Europe is that there is very little cheese used in Chinese meals.

@kyfcoffee,
Hi and welcome. Smile

You're doing fine. English is a difficult language!

America is a rather large country and so people eat lots of different things.

This morning, I had oatmeal. I really did have it with blueberries, but it was made with hot water, not hot milk. It looked a bit like this.

I just had an apple for a snack and then lunch is probably going to be a salad with a side of cooked sweet potato and some vegetables because I am watching my weight, plus it's kind of cold here today so I want something warm to go with my salad.

This is a sweet potato:

I cut off the ends, washed it, cut it into chunks, and will bake it in the microwave oven for about 6 minutes or so. It's a little sweet but not too sweet; it's not dessert (although people do make pie out of it).

I think we'll have soup for dinner tonight. It's cold for April! It's 40 degrees F here, which is about 4.44 degrees Celsius. I live in the northeast, in a state called Massachusetts, in a pretty large city called Boston, with my husband, who is also a member of Able2know. Smile

For lunch I had a ham and Provolone cheese sandwich on fresh 5 grain bread.
topped it of with lettuce green onion and my homemade vinaigrette for a spicy kick.

On the side was potato chips(yummy new flavor, olive oil and herbs) and a garlic pickle.

Which is a cucumber soaked in briny garlic for months.

@Lordyaswas,
Gorp = trail mix ... healthy snack.. but high calorie made up of nuts, seeds, and raisins..and carob chips. Most often eaten by hikers and mountain climbers to keep energy level or blood sugar high while on the trail.

@jespah,
Thank you for your reply. I know more methods about making food though your words. I love your breakfirst. It looks pretty good.

My hometown is in northeast of China. In Apirl, It's also not very warm. Now, I study in Xuzhou, a place in the east and in the middle of China. Sometimes, I feel there is too hot to stay. I prefer leave in my hometown Shengyan.

I am not usually log in this but I will check messages regularly. So I think your home is warm now. Right?
