nice one
once again i find it hard to stop at just the opening line
San Diego Serenade
Tom Waits
I never saw the morning 'til I stayed up all night
I never saw the sunshine 'til you turned out the light
I never saw my hometown until I stayed away too long
I never heard the melody, until I needed a song.
I never saw the white line, 'til I was leaving you behind
I never knew I needed you 'til I was caught up in a bind
I never spoke 'I love you' 'til I cursed you in vain,
I never felt my heartstrings until I nearly went insane.
I never saw the east coast 'til I move to the west
I never saw the moonlight until it shone off your breast
I never saw your heart 'til someone tried to steal,
tried to steal it away
I never saw your tears until they rolled down your face.
I never saw the morning 'til I stayed up all night
I never saw the sunshine 'til you turned out the light
I never saw my hometown until I stayed away too long
I never heard the melody, until I needed a song.
What album is that on?
I am listening to Bone Machine right now, weird.
the heart of saturday night, second album, if i haven't screwed up my chronology
bone machine and the black rider are the only two albums i don't own
should rectify that situation
Thanks
Another by Tom Waits:
When I'm lyin' in my bed at night
I don't wanna grow up
Nothin' ever seems to turn out right
I don't wanna grow up
How do you move in a world of fog
That's always changing things
Makes me wish that I could be a dog
good choice, i have that on the beautiful maladies greatest hits comp
have you heard the ramones version of the song?
I just got Heart of Saturday Night off itunes and realized I still have a way to go for his entire collection. Nighthawks at the Diner and the song Step Right Up hooked me on Tom Waits.
Quote:have you heard the ramones version of the song?
No, but that sounds like something I would want to check out. Do they speed through the song?
nighthawks was the first thing i ever heard, and as you say i was hooked
saw him live on the franks wild years tour, good show
