'aphrodisiac'
to 'prudence injury'
to 'discretion'
to 'discretion is the better part of valor'
to 'wisdom is the better part of virtue'

Girls, your mothers had this all wrong and gave bad advice. The etymological key here is to be found in 'virtue', a uniquely upstanding word which in the original Latin ('vir') referred to manliness. Thus, for those puzzling times when you find yourselves wondering 'is what I am about to do truly an instance of virtue?', you should properly be seeking this wisdom from the man there with you in the broom closet.
