canada is famous for its "red rose tea" - simply a black tea. they had a real funny ad for some time.
it should a "veddy british lord and lady" visiting in canada and having their cuppa(perhaps it was lord ellpus ?). while enjoying his tea, his lordship enquires if red rose is available in britain.
the answer : " only in canada you say ? pity ! '.

Victoria, BC is basically the retirement mecca of boatloads of Brits... most names in that city are of British origin, and there are tea houses galore. High tea is offered at the Empress Hotel for a mere $40 and is simply the average tea, scones, clotted cream etc.

When I was last in England (Dec), I had to take my own single cream to this certain cafe every morning. They thought I was absurd.

Yes it could look strange to a cafe owner to see somebody veering from the norm I suppose.

You could have made more fun of it, opened some 'old book' lit a candle and started chanting, I do things like that.

Do you like stability in life?

I do like stability but I also love the quirky, the unpredictable, the fun, the spontaneous...

Have you ever driven in your pyjamas?

hi, mame !
reading your mention of victoria and the empres hotel made me recall a funny incident some years ago. friends from germany were visiting with us and we had gone out west and driven to victoria.
we were staying at a downtown motor-inn and as we were driving into the courtyard to park, another driver came in the opposite - wrong - way. our friend parked our car; the other driver had to park at the other and of the court-yard. when we were standing in the lobby, the other driver entered. he had a kind of walrus-moustache, ruddy face ... and muttered : "bloody germans ". we couldn't help ourselves and burst out laughing (probably not quite correct !). we had a great time in victoria.
there was a restaurant/coffehouse called "the blathering place" , highly recommended to us by some scottish friends; is it still around ? hbg

Yes - it's called the Blethering Place and I was in it not too long ago. I was there with Mother and Sister Sally. It's a bit Victoriana and floral for my tastes, but delightful.

Hamburger - are you from Hamburg, or do you just eat a lot of Hamburger?

I have driven in my PJ's, I also rode a motorcycle totally nude except for a pair of trainers.

Have you ever done anything outrageous?

I don't know what you consider outrageous Smile My sister (LISA) and I dressed like bag ladies once and tried to hitchhike around Victoria. Sadly, no one gave us a lift. Do you think it might have been the fruit on the hats? And we dressed up another time as Rajahs to pick up my Mother at the airport. This was long ago... mid 80s.

Why were you ONLY wearing your trainers? Or why were you nude at all?

Its one of those daft stupid things men do when they have had a pint or two and get involved with a bunch of steel erectors in a busy bar!

When hundreds of pounds are changing hands on daft stupid bets, anything can happen, but I was younger then, it was 18 months ago.

Would you have a drink with me?

Depends on my mood and circumstances.

I enjoy a pint.
A quality whisky
A Cognac
Curvoisier Brandy and Taylor's Port.

Sometimes I go for months and never bother.

What is your preference?

No, it's Scottish, I believe, because I found a bottle in a Whisky Shoppe for an astronomical amount of money.

I certainly DO know of Don Ho; my Mother used to play him and the Tijuana Brass all the dang time. Do you sing along with most music?
