"grog"

(traditional hamburg winter drink for "icing out" - about 2/3 hot water, 1/3 rum (preheated in a special flask) and 2-3 pieces of sugar ; first inhale the aroma and then ... ahhh !)

We are familiar with the word grog hamburger. Usually served in a large earthenware skull complete with skull and cross bones on the side and adorned with fruits of oriental heritage.

in hamburg a glass similar to a large snifter is used for serving "grog" (about 200 cl) . a special glassrod is put into the glass while the boiling water is being poured to prevent the glass from breaking . since we don't have any of the old glasses left after almost 50 years in canada , we are using heavy mugs now (it'll do in a pinch). hbg
