buster keaton ... the railrodder
----------------------------------------------------------
if i'm not mistaken the film was made in canada to celebrate canada's centenary of confederation in 1967. i've seen it a number of times and still get a kick out of it.
-----------------------------------------------------------

(The Railrodder,Keaton's 87th film, is loaded with laughs and brimming with clever sight gags as our hero speeds across North America in a gas powered railway handcar, never loosing sight of his flat hat or his impeccable comic timing. At age 69, Keaton still displays remarkable agility and grace, performing the dangerous stunts himself as the tiny car races across dizzying trestles, through deep canyons, and nearly collides with oncoming express trains.

Buster Keaton Rides Again is a rare, insightful, and touching documentary that takes you on location with Buster Keaton during the filming of The Railrodder. It contains the only known footage of Keaton at work behind the camera, revealing the same methods he used to create his classic films of the 1920s. Also featured are candid glimpses of the comic veteran recalling his early days, relaxing and clowning with his wife Elanor, and intensely planning the next day's scenes with the crew. Here, his famous "stone face" actually cracks a smile as he anticipates his art before the camera once more. Watching Keaton provides an invaluable opportunity to understand his comic genius and, ultimately, the secret of his universal charm and humor. This is a priceless record of comic filmmaking -- an absolute must for all Keaton fans ans all students of cinema. )
