RSPCA versus Weather Abuse.

I've always been puzzled by 'raining cats and dogs,' but every language seems to have an illogical equivalent of this illogical idiom; French has 'it rains ropes,' whereas Spanish has the more sensible 'it's raining to the jugs' (which can mean 'it's raining plenty' or, to mistaken students, 'raining to breasts.'

<drom, There are occasions when it has really rained fish, frogs and other assorted things. The explanation is usually something like a water spout which picks stuff up and deposites it later inland>

(Have you ever seen this, Danon? Does it generally happen in places with unusual weather conditions?)
