With my silly hat,

silly dance like a billy goat!
I remember him right after Howdy Doody and before Kookla, Fran and Ollie.
Classic Saturday live kids shows!!
that plastic thing you put over the tv and scribble on and that plastic tricolored thing you put on the tve to haved "colored TV"!
Yeah, didn't work to well, but it was fun trying and we all made somebody
big money buying it.!
That reminds me of The $64,000 Question scandal!
Oooh, we never had that plastic thing, heh, but I did used to watch the 64,000 question. A good friend of my exhub and I was friends with the family... thinking, what was their name.
Very smart well regarded folk, prior to this matter. Ah, yes, Van Doren. I felt sorry for the family, and somewhat for the young Van Doren on the program, what e'er his program sins.
We had one of those things for all of about 20 minutes, then Dad got frustrated and pitched it.
That scandal shook up a lot of other shows too. Too bad it happened. Van Doren, you say. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Mamie Van Doren
Cool stories! I never heard about screens that made a b & w tv 'color'! and their was a movie about the $64,000 ---scandal, called 'Quiz Show', I think.
Mamie Eisenhower
I heard Tom Selleck is playing him (Ike) in a movie.
WWII (right?)
Yep, WWII, "The Big One"
Tom Sellack, cute guy, especially in Quigley Down Under. Australia!! Where's dlowan when you need that smokin' rabbit?
Yeah. I heard he shaved his hair & face.
It might have been Carl Van Doren. Father - Mark? the family was very associated with encyclopedia brittanica, had significant intellectual history, though I don't recall what or how, and haven't looked it up tonight.
Many years later, well, maybe not so many as the crow flies, another friend's boyfriend, soon to be husband, went on some quiz show in LA and made it through something like twelve shows, upon which time they decided he had to go.
No big deal...
But the guy in the 64, etc question was a scion of a family of serious studious demeanor.
Hmm, a movie there?
(she says, always full of unpopular ideas...)
oops, I didn't reconnect with the thread on that one, sorry.
