Whirling fancy shawls in a woman's fancy shawl dance at a pow wow!

, Danon,
How do you dice mayonaise?

Do you eat it as a snack, like popcorn?
BillW, That's what is called a "Traditional pow wow, no huge prizes for just the top three winners in each dance or drum category. They don't often get the very best dancers and singing groups, but they are more friendly and all dancers and singing groups get an honorarium to help defray travel costs.
Sam and I dislike the contest or competition pow wows. People will travel a long distance and if they aren't "in the money", they may not be able to get home or to the next pow wow. They're way to commercialized in other ways, mostly geared for the spectators.
We like the traditional pow wows, where you get to seeing old friends, family and extending the family. We spend as much time talking with the traders as we do family, having known some for more than just a few years. It's comparable to a community fair without judging and the intertribal dances are for
everyone to get a chance to dance, no matter who you are.
We have one here in July, but can't attend. We're going to be at a weeklong Gathering at the time and are helping with a once in a lifetime Ceremony for a Blackfoot brother. He'll be recognised as an Elder by several of us there and will be recieving his Canupa(Sacred Pipe). If it weren't for the Gathering, we'd be at the pow wow, visiting with familyand friends.
I have a new buckskin dress and matching high top moccasins that I picked up in Pine Ridge that I'd love to wear here, but it'll have to wait until the Veteran's Pow Wow. I need to get the beadwork done on the shoulders of the dress and toes of the moccasins, then It'll be ready to use. Once that's done I have Sam take a picture of me in it and I'll use it for an avatar. I plan on changing mine again next week, sometime.
