cryptic crossword clue

That is really difficult, Clary; I am lost, personally, on this one...

Eek, all I can figure out is a C should probably be in there (first bit of couch). Got clues for some of the crossing words?

Here's a really wild guess with some even wilder reasoning:

From "Ectomorph", you'd get all of these words:

weed or weed hard = "hoe"
or
hard = "chrome"?
further up - "top"
first part of couch - "co" or "pot" (like in couch "potato")

Good idea, Rgdy, I have sent it to the friend I was doing this fiendishly difficult Times crossword with this morning, and see if it will fit in. No, the crossing words are all done, Jespah. We have to wait till next weekend to get the answer.

couch could refer to "couch grass"---a weed

The only word I find that fits is ectomorph: a light framed person = weed; cannot fit the further clues

I'm trying to get EXTIRPATE out of this, which would assume some of the crossing words are wrong. Extirpate means pulling out by the roots. But it doesn't seem to work.

We think ECTOMORPH is right - H (for hard, as in 2H pencils) and PROMOTE (further) written up (ETOMORPH), containging the C of couch and yes, the whole means a weedy person
- my co-crossworder worked it out but thanks Raggedyaggie for the word even if the logic was wrong!
