@nacredambition,
I don't know about Aussie wines, but a good inexpensive chardonnay is Kendall Jackson Reserve.

@izzythepush,
Aussie wines are very good. I especially enjoyed their Malbec.

@cicerone imposter,
It wasn't meant as a comment on Australian wine. It's just a comedy sketch.

I found the sketch quite funny as well as have Australian Shiraz as my favorite type of wine. Very Happy

I've liked shiraz. I remember a client giving us a batch of shiraz bottles as thanks - um, what I don't remember is how they were packed. I suppose a carton is the word.

Shipment is probably the better word.

@ossobucotemp,
I remember having Lodi Shiraz, and it was very good. I think it was at a Lodi winery a few years ago.
Just heard good news from my nephrologist. I can have an occasional small glass of wine.
We're flying to Hawaii next month, and they serve pretty good wine.

@hightor,
I'm not much of a drinker any more, but i used to buy Vella cabernet in a box. Equivalent of 5 bottles for $15-20. It's the best red I've ever tasted. Liked it so much I wated it down so as not to get drunk and it still was good.

I remember reading a Gore Vidal novel, "Creation" I think it was. Part of it took place in ancient Persia. When the royals had a party, the man who provided the wine would decide if it was going to be a drunk fest or conversation party. If the latter he would water the wine down.

@coluber2001,
How much water in one glass of wine? Never thought of that idea, but it's a good one. I can baby my one glass limit on a long flight.

I need to read that...

I've read Vidal, but mostly essays.

@cicerone imposter,
I think I used 50%, but I was a lightweight. Still, I enjoyed it.

@coluber2001,
Read an interesting article on adding water to wine. It reduces the bite of the alcohol, and the fruit flavor is enhanced. The recommended ratio is 4 to 1. 4 ounces of wine and 1 ounce of water. That's going to become my ratio from now on.

@cicerone imposter,
I read about how the Romans used to water down their wine so I tried it. I used Chablis I think and mixed it with ice water, nearly half and half. It makes a refreshing summer drink and you don't get hammered!

@TomTomBinks,
You can use ice with Chablis, but a bad idea with red wine. I also don't care for chilled red wine; I like it at room temp.

You change your drinking habits more often than you change nephrologists.

My preferred ratio is 7:1 , there's a heck of a lodda wadder in wine.

@cicerone imposter,
Yep, room temp red with dinner usually. I like Malbec, Sangiovese, Cabernet mostly. The cold watered down white is just once in a while on hot days instead of iced tea.
