Seemingly normal black rock

Picture probably isn't much help but here it is: https://imageshack.us/i/pb5e2Ijfj

So looking at it and in the picture it looks like a perfectly normal rock. I thought maybe onyx. But while you can't see it in the photo, it has several scratches on it from non copper items (cement and a quarter) but the line under it is bright copper like a new minted penny. Am I being stupid or is this some strange rock. Oh and it went through a rock tumbler if that affects it. Found somewhere in Michigan not sure what part as I have had it for years.

@Crazyman582,
It looks like tumbled Hematite to me. Does it have a silvery sheen to it?

@rosborne979,
Glossy but not really silvery. What of the scratches?

I can't explain the scratches, other than maybe it was scratched with something copper colored, or maybe it was an artifact of reflection on the scratch.

Here are some photo's of tumbled Hematite. The image you provided just looked like this to me, but the image was kind of fuzzy so you will have to judge for yourself.

My pleasure. Glad we found it for ya. Smile

By the way, those are very common. You can get them as refrigerator magnets too (I have some).
