Measure the area of bacteria on a petri dish

There may well be - but if not, you can produce a transparent grid of standard squares using a printer which you could place over the dish. Alternatively you could photograph the dish and print the image on squared paper. The quick area approximation involves counting squares over half as full, and squares less than half as empty. Statistically the fractions should balance out.
