Colouring hair extensions

I have just has blonde nano rings fitted but am fed up of having dark rootss and the maintained of being blonde. Is it possible to dye my roots and mid-ends of natural hair and extensions to have an ombré look? I was only going two shade darker than my hair extensions. Will they look ok or if not could I go for low lights balayage style? Please help
