A medical student has set off on a musical journey the length of Britain - with his euphonium for company.

Joe Symonds, of Sedbergh, Cumbria, is cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats towing the cumbersome instrument on a trailer.

The third-year Dundee University student will play concerts with 12 local brass bands along the way, raising money for the Dundee-based Institute for Cardiac Research, which studies ways of preventing and treating cardiovascular disease.
