Love's the boy stood on the burning deck
trying to recite "The boy stood on
the burning deck." Love's the son
stood stammering elocution
while the poor ship in flames went down.

Love's the obstinate boy, the ship,
even the swimming sailors, who
would like a schoolroom platform, too,
or an excuse to stay
on deck. And love's the burning boy.

Elizabeth Bishop's poetry certainly runs the gamut of style...or is this my perception?

key West holds a poetry weekend seminar every year, and I participated in the year it was Elizabeth Bishop.

I found it interesting that she translated poetry, for other poet friends, from Spanish into English. It seemed to me that the translations were wonderfully done. Translating written works is an art form, I believe. To translate poetry properly without losing the nuances of the words, I think could be considered the highest type of artistic translation.

"To Be written on the Mirror in Whitewash"

I live only here, between your eyes and you,
But I live in your world. What do I do?
-Collect no interest-otherwise what i can;
Above all I am not that staring man.
