@djjd62,
Dj, I had explained somewhere else that I do want it to be visible when I'm editing a posting. It's a sub for the crossout, which is just too much trouble

Is that what you want to do? If so just use the strike code.

easier crossout
Thanks Mes, I was sure there's an easy way.

But I can't find it

@dalehileman,
It is not one of A2K's supplied shortcuts. You have to manually type the code.

@dalehileman,
save it in a word doc on your computer

Code:[strike] [/strike]

copy it into a post you want to use it in

(make sure the words you want to get rid of are in the space between)

done

it's four mouse movement to use it once it's been saved

Yea Beth here goes

Hellohello

But the idea that I have to open Word every time is positively pathetic. I swear ed. routine programmers must not be paid very well

But thanks

@dalehileman,
opening a saved word doc - 1 keystroke

now it's 5 keystrokes to use your own strike feature

if that's not lazy enough for you, you may have to put some time into programming something shorter

Thanks Beth but actually it takes 3 or 4 keystrokes depending on where one has saved it; not bad at all except that the process usu requires annoying waits: 25 seconds to load last time I tried it, then an additional 13 seconds to reveal the file

I'd suggest in an open letter to to Mac that a crossout be included up there at the top under Edit. Two keystrokes, almost instantaneous. However I'm not sure if I explained how and why they'd even understand what I'm talking about. I understand that to become an ed.-routine writer you have to have an IQ less than 42

(Yes of course Beth I understand you'd have Word open at all times. But my No. 1 Son, an expert in the field, says don't do that 'cause it requires mem

@dalehileman,
You've lost me, man. I've never had to open Word to use strikeout on a2k. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the problem.

@roger,
Apparently lehi wants to use a strikethrough feature when he is explaining things to others (I suspect primarly EFL posters). There is no strikethrough feature in the BBCode Editor.

Someone showed him how to type it in ...

Code: [strike] words [/strike]

that was too many keystrokes for lehi

I suggested he type it out once and save it in a word doc and then just copy it when he wanted to use it. Even those 5 keystrokes are too much work.

Back on ignore lehi goes.

does No. 1 Son see you each day and watch you posting?

____

if not, he might not be an expert in you and your posting habits.

Rog you came in a bit late. I had mentioned I don't like a2k's way of doing it 'cause it entails too many keystrokes

Oh, thanks for explaining how Word ever became an issue on this. I would rather type than go through all that.

@roger,
We've got a couple of word notepad stickies on our desktop. They're fast to access. Open (one keystroke). Highlight/copy (2 ks). Deposit in post (paste - either one or 2 ks, depending on how you started). Drop in the edit (2 ks). 6 or 7 keystrokes and it's done. vs 15 - 20 if you type it out. <shrug> No biggie either way.

Notepad would be my program of choice for that operation. It is small, fast and can be opened in a very small window. Dale however uses a Mac. I don't know if Macs have an equivalent of note pad.

Seems to me that for Dale's problem simply typing those fifteen characters is no big deal for an infrequently used function. Once typed if he wants to use it multiple times in a post just copy and paste.

Well Dale, do you know the old saying, "You get what you pay for."? Well with A2K I get a whole hell of a lot more than I pay for so no, I do not resent having to manually type a few characters for the seldom used BBCodes. Would it be nicer if all of the A2K implemented BBCodes were in the toolbar? Yes, and maybe in the next revision of A2K if there ever is one, the BBCode editor toolbar will be expanded. Meanwhile I am happy that at least the functionality is there.

Do you really use "strike" often enough that 15 characters is a problem? If so, you could save on typing the brackets and / by picking the B from the BBCode toolbar and replacing the "b" with "strike". That would properly place the brackets and reduce your typing to 10 characters.

Other available functional codes besides "strike" that do work in A2K which are not in the toolbar are
Code:[youtube][/youtube]
for embedding youtube videos in a post.
Code:[list][/list]
to create lists such as
Code:[list][*]Red[*]Blue[*]Yellow[/list]

  • Red
  • Blue
  • Yellow

Code:[list=1][*]Red[*]Blue[*]Yellow[/list]

  1. Red
  2. Blue
  3. Yellow

Code:[list=a][*]Red[*]Blue[*]Yellow[/list]

  1. Red
  2. Blue
  3. Yellow

I agree, I rather like most all a2k's software

I'm not suggesting BB change its software, only that Mac/Apple (if they're somehow listening) add crossout to Edit, then available at all times everywhere

Yes, Mes, eg in a2k I often edit the esl's para, and I am a lazy bastard

But thank you for those additional suggestions
