Inspired by a recent tweet do you know any examples of the use of mythical, religious, fictional, historical characters/stories/situations used wrongly?

This is the tweet:

@ThingsJackDigs im not mayonnaise
I'm convinced no one has actually read the story of Icarus.

Like, no-one's going to call their new super liner the Titanic any time soon are they?

The tweep also noted the preponderance of romantic songs about Romeo & Juliet, given that effectively it's two barely post pubescents committing unintentional suicide a couple of days after they first meet.

Anyway - do you know any more where I can smugly look down on some marketer, singer, screenwriter or brand manager who knew the names but not the story?

Great question but no, not right now. I'll think about it.

I have to chuckle every time I see a Nissan "Armada" SUV.

Yeah, let's name a vehicle after a fleet that never got to its destination.

@George,
George that's a whole sub thread! Mitsubishi's Pajero is a wanker in Spanish.

I find the use of 'Waterloo' interesting. The tacit assumption is you're Napoleon, but I might be Wellington or Blucher.

The nickname of the Tufts University sports teams is "Jumbos", an
allusion to Jumbo, the massive pachyderm whose stuffed remains
P.T. Barnum donated to the university.

I live near that university but I have seen very few Tufts athletes wearing
shirts with "JUMBOS" written n them.
