PRAGUE (AFP) - Two fake bombs which brought the centre of the Czech Republic's second city Brno to a standstill were made by art students as part of their end of term college project, police said.
The city centre was sealed off for three hours on June 17 as bomb disposal experts investigated the two suspicious devices. Firefighters and rescue workers were also called in and traffic had to be re-routed.
The replica explosive devices were the work of two art students, aged 24 and 21, a police spokesman said.
The two young men constructed the objects, which bore "EXPLOSIVE" stickers, out of old electronic components as part of their final semester project.
The students were traced after their professor contacted the police. They now face criminal charges of conspiring to cause a public disturbance.
