Words and Expressions that Evoke a Bygone Era.

On another thread, I wanted to demonstrate my great approval, so I used the word "fabulous". Then I realized that the word "fabulous" plunked me right in the 1950s, when it was an overused word that people used to describe anything that they thought was wonderful.

What other words have you used over the years that was the buzzword of another time?

"Cool" has become "hot".

Old: Daddy, you're so cool!

Today: Man, that babe is hot!

Cool

Earlier, someone 'held no truck' with me.
When I came in from play, my grandmother would judge me to be 'black as gyp's hind legs.' (Politically incorrect, these days.)

Here's a mode of expression that we can now use again since we're in a new century:

"You think this is cold? You should have been here in the winter of aught-one. Now that was cold!"

Dable.
My boss was asking what SNAFU stood for the other day which launched into a discussion of the phrase FUBAR and now he is saying FUBAR all the time.....
Here's one: "wicked pissah"My mom used to tell me she would "lambaste me to the other side of Jordan" and my Nana used to tell us to "Stop raising hold ned." Of course I would then lay down on the floor start getting up slowly saying "I'm raising holy ned."

When someone said "tit for tat" I would always reply "what is tat, how do I get it and how can I exchange it for the other thing?"
