All but one of the numbers from 1 to 72
is read to you, one every ten seconds, but
in no particular order. You have a good mind, but only a normal memory, and by no means of recording
information during the process (no paper, cell phone, computer, etc.). How can you ensure you can
determine afterword which number was not called out?

@jeff-the-seeker,
Total 1 to 72 = 2628 (FROM 72 x 36.5)
Add the numbers as they are read out.
Take your total from 2628

@jeff-the-seeker,
NB You can may it a bit easier by discarding hundreds as you go.
Your total must exceed 2555 (2628 minus 73) so if you discard the hundreds as you go, you final figure will either be less than 28 (in which case you subtract it from 28) or greater than 55, (in which case you take it from 100 and add 28).
e.g. If you end up with 20 after discarding hundreds the answer is 8 ( because your totally was actually 2620)
Or if you got 70 after discarding hundreds the answer is 58 (30+28) because your total was actually 2570
