Your attack on literal reading is bogus, the Church NEVER went for literal reading because it makes no sense with 73 different books of different genres. There is no literal reading of a Parable !!!!
Gnosticism died because it was intellectually empty. You've got 4 hugely attested Gospels and you go chasing some silly Gospel of Pontius Pilate.
