Which one is correct from the following sentences?
1) Heat waves are important precisely because "they help us understand" everyday conditions that always affect the society but are difficult to see.
2) Heat waves are important precisely because "they help us to understand" everyday conditions that always affect the society but are difficult to see.
3) Heat waves are important precisely because "they help us understanding" everyday conditions that always affect the society but are difficult to see.
If each of these are correct, would you like to explain the difference of meaning among them?

1) is a bald infinitive, and is equivalent to 2). Both are acceptable. 3) is not acceptable because of the verb "help." It pairs with the infinitive form of the verbal in a non-negative context:
