I've always been fascinated by oak galls for some reason. I used to think there was treasure in the big ones. I've seen big black galls on branches and tiny spiky ones of different colors on the underside of leaves.

Are they all caused by wasps?

Thanks!

@Toadfur,
I believe that plant galls can be caused by any number of irritants to the plant, they are essentially benign growths on the plant as a reaction to some type of irritant.

Most oak galls are caused by species of wasps, but some mites can cause them and various other irritants or damage to the tree can also result in a gall (though much less commonly than from the wasps).
