Very nice, neko. I may just post a few photos from my garden and ask you for ideas. Would you be willing to do that?

Ask any time, Gus; I'm interested to see what capabilities
your place has. More than willing.

Thanks ever so much for the kind comment, msolga; it touches
on my motivation for crafting this bit of subdivision paradise.
Lilac and privet beat out a palisade privacy fence hands down.

The big orange petalled flowers, dys?
Never seen Echinacea before. Is this the same variety (or related to) the ones used in health shop preparations?

Did some work on my iris border, although the project
suffered a setback by the theft of last year's transplants
by squirrels.

I've reordered some more of Spun Gold, which will come
sometime in August, but I'll also set in another cultivar,
shown below in a provisional brooder bed near the side
of the house, just in case.

I don't know its name, having found it years ago piled
along with garden debris in a vacant lot. It's a vigorous
plant and attractive in its own right. And not only
that, but the iris borers seem to ignore it.

It's only the last month or so I've "discovered" I have a garden after living here for nearly 20 years. I'm getting quite enthusiastic, got lots of pretty pots planted out now.

Love that flower in the bottom picture, neko. And most of the posts in this thread have inspired and encouraged me. Been out this morning clearing some ivy - must go now for that first cup of coffee! Very Happy

Some of my potted flowers and the arbor my hubby built.

Tarah-how did you only now discover your garden?

Wow eoe, they put my pots to shame. They're gorgeous.

A new neighbour moved in recently and she's a wonderful inspirational gardener. She's got me to walk around my garden and said she'd help me and advise me what to do. I've had a gardener for years but this one's absolutely useless and I will get rid of him.

I'm going to get a new fence which means clearing one side and also we're going to get the patio newly paved (we've had an estimate and had to lie down after reading it).

So that's about it.

You have a way with flowers, eoe; they're truly
beautiful. I know Icouldn't make a show like that.

Now over my way --

Oldtimer has completed its annual
molt and is now sprouting new leaves.
Interesting, hm ?

Thank you Tarah and neko.

The Oldtimer is sprouting NEW LEAVES? Good grief neko. Just how old is that old girl now?

Yeah-- she dropped leaves all over the coffee table before she was taken
out, and if you look closely in the enlargement, you'll see a few more on that rock. It'll be 29 , maybe even 30 in November.

If my next hobby is photography, I'll be able to post you some pix. Until then, no chance!

This evening a friend gave me a cutting of a Ceanothus. I'll plant it tomorrow. The sunflower she gave me a couple of weeks ago has already grown a little.

Who'd have thought that gardening could actually be enjoyable!

I had a closer look, neko. Do you have a big garden (sorry, yard)?

We're having the left hand fence replaced which will mean everything in front cleared so we're starting again.

My neighbour said she'd help me choose shrubs etc so do you think we'd be able to do it ourselves or should we get a professional landscape gardener in to do it all?
