@Letty,
Not really a spiritual... It's a poem, the story of a man who's woken up at night by an angel. The angel plucks a feather from his own shoulder, gives it to the narrator and says: "This is an angel's feather. Show it around you. If you can convince one human being to believe you, this world will be saved." But of course, no one will believe the narrator...

edgar/Mark, dear Hank Williams. Still think of him and Law Liga was great.

Olivier5, Thanks for the explanation of the feather. Had no idea it was a poem.

Here's another one gone too soon, y'all.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for the comment and personal acknowledgement, Mark. I love The Hilltoppers doing Marianne.

Going to say good afternoon with two songs. First one that my Mamma loved:

Here's some info:

The Sons of the Pioneers are one of the United States' earliest Western singing groups.Known for their vocal performances, their musicianship, and their songwriting,they produced innovative recordings that have inspired many Western music performers and remained popular through the years.Since 1933, through many changes in membership, the Sons of the Pioneers have remained one of the longest-surviving country music vocal groups.

Now, their great song.

and Queen says it right, too.

Great having England and France with us.

From Letty with love to everyone here

I like Queen's song.
The Sons of the Pioneers is a group I listened to on the radio as a kid. There is a John Wayne movie they appear in, with Ken Curtis (Festus on Gunsmoke) taking a lead. He had a beautiful voice, too.

New edition of Punch out today. This is a cartoon. Unfortunately the site I've got it off is a bit touchy so the picture may not last. Here's a link to the page.

Quote:
"Arry. That is Harry: a popular
embodiment of the vulgar, rollicking,
yet on the whole good-tempered rough
of the metropolis. Whence 'Arriet,
'Arry's young woman. [Popularised
by Milliken in a series of ballads in
Punch.] 'Arryish, vulgarly jovial.

Good morning from our Florida radio station.

Mark, Liked that one by Lena Horne. The only one I knew from The Sons of the Pioneers was Roy Rogers. I tried to find Old Faithful by him, but no luck. Perhaps you can help. Here are the lyrics:

Old faithful we rode the range together
Old faithful in every kind of weather
When your roundup days are over
There'll be pastures white with clover
For you old faithful pal of mine

Hurry up old fellow cause the moon is yellow tonight
Hurry up old fellow cause the moon is mellow and bright
There's a coyote howlin' to the moon above
So carry me back to the one I love
Hurry up old fellow cause we gotta get home tonight

Old faithful we rode the range together...
For you old faithful pal of mine

It's also Thomas Pane's birthday but I won't go into his propaganda on Common Sense.

Another birthday guy that I truly enjoyed:

and, y'all, seeing my egrets on the lawn reminded my of these Byrds:

Once again, calling all musicians, music lovers, painters and poets.

Our poem for today:

In School-days
By John Greenleaf Whittier
Still sits the school-house by the road,
A ragged beggar sleeping;
Around it still the sumachs grow,
And blackberry-vines are creeping.

Within, the master’s desk is seen,
Deep scarred by raps official;
The warping floor, the battered seats,
The jack-knife’s carved initial;

The charcoal frescos on its wall;
Its door’s worn sill, betraying
The feet that, creeping slow to school,
Went storming out to playing!

Long years ago a winter sun
Shone over it at setting;
Lit up its western window-panes,
And low eaves’ icy fretting.

It touched the tangled golden curls,
And brown eyes full of grieving,
Of one who still her steps delayed
When all the school were leaving.

For near her stood the little boy
Her childish favor singled:
His cap pulled low upon a face
Where pride and shame were mingled.

Pushing with restless feet the snow
To right and left, he lingered;—
As restlessly her tiny hands
The blue-checked apron fingered.

He saw her lift her eyes; he felt
The soft hand’s light caressing,
And heard the tremble of her voice,
As if a fault confessing.

“I’m sorry that I spelt the word:
I hate to go above you,
Because,”—the brown eyes lower fell,—
“Because, you see, I love you!”

Still memory to a gray-haired man
That sweet child-face is showing.
Dear girl! the grasses on her grave
Have forty years been growing!

He lives to learn, in life’s hard school,
How few who pass above him
Lament their triumph and his loss,
Like her,—because they love him.

Rufus Wainwrigh - Cigarettes & Chocolate Milk

cigarettes and chocolate milk
these are just a couple of my cravings
everything it seems i like is a little bit stronger
a little bit thicker
a little bit harmful for me

if i should buy jellybeans
have to eat them all in just one sitting
everything it seems i like is a little bit sweeter
a little bit fatter
a little bit harmful for me

and then there's those other things
which for several reasons we won't mention
everything about them is a little bit stranger
a little bit harder
a little bit deadly

it isn't very smart
tends to make one part so broken-hearted

sitting here remembering me
always been a shoe made for the city
go ahead, accuse me of just singing about places
with scrappy boys faces
have general run of the town
playing with prodigal songs
takes a lot of sentimental valiums
can't expect the world to be your raggedy andy
while running on empty
you little old doll with a frown

you got to keep in the game
maintaining mystique while facing forward
i suggest a reading of 'a lesson in tightropes'
or 'surfing your high hopes' or 'adios kansas'

it isn't very smart
tends to make one part so broken-hearted

still there's not a show on my back
holes or a friendly intervention
i'm just a little bit heiress, a little bit irish
a little bit tower of pisa whenever i see you
so please be kind if i'm a mess

PRINCE B-SM-RCK (with the utmost courtesy) "MADAME, YOU ARE GREAT, POWERFUL, WARLIKE, AND IT WAS BY THE MEREST ACCIDENT THAT WE HAPPENED TO GET THE BETTER OF YOU!"
