The Boston Sunday Globe did an interview with Judy Collins.
Q. You’re credited with discovering Leonard Cohen. How’d that happen?
A. He came to see me in 1966. I knew about him from a friend who talked
about a poet from Canada she went to school with. He came to my apartment
on 79th Street; he knocked on the door, and I opened it and thought: “Well, I
don’t care if he can’t write songs!” [Laughs] He sang me “Suzanne” and
“Dress Rehearsal Rag” and “The Stranger Song.” . . . I fell in love with them. I
don’t presume to know why they’re great songs, but of course they’re great.
