1) having or displaying no guile, cunning or deceit;
2) free of artificiality, natural.
Related words - ingenuous, sincere, naive, natural.
I realise now there are other meanings -
3) unskilled, ignorant
4) poorly made, crude
In all honesty I have never come across these last two meanings as relating to 'artless' until I just looked them up in an on-line dictionary. I apologise sincerely, I meant the word as a compliment.
