How do you feel about designing your own children...deciding for they height, weight, academic accomplishments, athletic potential, etc. before they were born? Is this natural?
How do you feel about cloning a dead family member? Or the cloning of an admired or beloved deceased celebrity, politician, athlete (i.e. Mother Theresa, Princess Diana)?
How do you like the idea to be able to eliminate deadly diseases and incurable genetic syndromes (i.e. down syndromes) with biotechnology and other modern technologies?
Do you feel that genetic engineering is going the right direction?

This technology could be used to do a lot of good or a lot of evil. A good example of the downside can be seen in the recent movie, "Gattaca."
I feel that any kid that inherits my genes is already genetically superior.
The teanagers of our future will have the ultimate excuse for bad behavor, as they read their spec sheet, "I'm exactly like you made me!" Neil
A deaf lesbian couple here sought out and obtained donor sperm from a deaf gay man in order to produce a child that was deaf. They were successful. This is an example of genetic engineering at it's worst. Personally, I think they're a pair of freaks who should not have been allowed to breed.
Anyone saw the movie "The Island" in the theaters? I saw it last weekend and needless to say this topic resurfaced in my mind again. Although that movie was kinda realistic (for now), I still couldn't help but wonder if that's how our world will become some day. After all, that's what people want right?--to live longer?

No, I think most people are way too wierded out by this concept and religious for something like cloning to become widely popular even if the technology existed.

I don't agree with genetically modifying our children to be better at certain things...that's pretty wierd, and probably would result in a lot of birth defects...but what if you could genetically ensure that they would not be born with certain birth defects, etc? Is that a different story?
Anyway, we can't do this, so it's a moot point in my opinion.
Great Idea
Hey i'm 15 and think it'd probly be a great idea as long as the people who have the changes use it for good it'd be great thing to happen and will help cure almost all diseases and well have people who are much smarter stronger and more also it'll help so we don't turn out up dieing on this planet like a bunch of idiots who didn't do enough research about anything then we also can explore more then earth i'm thinking about becoming a genetic engineer myself;p
I think we SHOULD do it, to manufacture more fat people. Because fat people bring comedy in our lives.
How?
Well, you see, it's a fact that fat people don't have any feelings, because they drowned them all in twinkies and cake. So it's totally cool to point and laugh at them in public, because they won't even hear you over the loud chomping of Doritos.
I shall genetically engineer my child to be intellectually gifted, athletically superior, musically perfect and comedically hilarious. But only if he inherits some of his mothers genes. If he just gets my genes then he's all set.
well id prefer the randomness of the genes... 23 or your best or worst chromosomes with 23 of anothers = pure random chance of an Aryan Superhuman or a short sickly child or a normal child... i prefer the randomness, its better than playing god for one..
I think I'll wait until at least version 2.0 of the designing software....
OK, version 2.1....
