Hint: Its a takeoff on MIL-SPEC designations which are used to cetify a product or component is certified for military use.

ASTO = Appliance smarter than operator

OWS = Operating while stupid

And, the One D Ten T error = 1D10T Error (IDIOT/1D10T)
