A very valuable barometer of the the heat that a 'discussion' can raise. First postulated on UseNet by Mike Godwin it acknowledges that:

As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.


This does not mean that the topic was about the Hitler, or the Nazis, or the Holocaust (that would make a lot of WW2 history forums redundant). It means that the moment one of the forum members starts comparing the arguments or logic or personality of another member as being derivative OF them you have reached a point that the discussion has turned toxic and a flame-war is pending.
