Jane and Mary "change"/ "are changing" their costumes behind the stage now.

Much thx! May I check if it will make any difference to qn if there is an "into" word... Meaning

Jane and Mary change/are changing into their costumes behind the stage now.

I feel the answer should be "are changing" due to the "now" word. Much thx

It depends on how you are using the sentence.

Okay, here's how this will work. Albert goes onstage to sing, blah blah and blah blah change their costumes backstage now, then ..... .

You can't go back there right now. Blah Blah and Blah Blah are changing their costumes backstage.

The first one doesn't have to be part of a series of events.

Blah blah and blah change their costumes backstage now.

"Are changing" means they're doing it right now. But "change" means while they probably aren't doing it now, they previously changed somewhere else
