Yahoo announced plans to offer 100 megabytes of free e-mail storage, up from four megabytes currently. The company has been charging $19.79 to $49.79 annually for 25 to 100 megabytes. The change, which will become effective this summer, is being made six weeks after Google unveiled an e-mail service that will offer each account 1,000 megabytes of free storage.

Hey, that is great for consumers. Let the two rival companies knock each other out, trying to collect more customers. We all benefit!

I'm glad I hung onto that Yahoo account. Maybe this will make me use it more often.

Have any of you seen Yahoo mail today? It's sluggish and keeps giving me "server not found" errors. Ah, progress.

I just got automatically upgraded to Yahoo Plus -- 2GB! Yes GB! My inbox went from 79% full to 4% full.

Then POPmail forwarding and all kinds of other goodies.

Thank you Gmail.

Oh and Yahoo. :-D

Yikes. I had trouble with my Yahoo account all morning, but I only use it to get updates from A2K, and occasionally so that I can get spammed by Abuzz. Very Happy

Jes-I haven't gotten any errors, but the service is slow as molasses in January.

Mine's zippy!

I had a mongo account to begin with, though, 100 MB. I suspect us big spenders are benefitting at the expense of the rest of you. (Though I now have Yahoo Pluss for $19.99/ year, yay.) Hope the slowness doesn't mean they'll have to adjust things (lke roll back current benefits)... I'm all happy!

I'm having the same problems as Jespah.

And I'm a little bit pissed about it -- I need to check something before I crash.

Hey Letty. I was kicked off Abuzz for no good or even bad reason. What is your Abuzz nick?

soz- The only thing that I can think of is that since this upgrade has jumped off, many more people have flocked to the service.

OK, I've come down from the "look at all my inbox space!" high enough to be sympathetic. I got an error message at some point too, I actually have no basis to say "zippy" because my computer as whole is moody and I often have to wait forever before the connection is made, but I'm used to that.

Did everyone get upgrades?

Yeah, and there has to be a huge strain on the system to have that huge jump in memory -- presumably they prepared for it, but maybe not enough?

I dunno, though.

NickFun- Are you sure that it wasn't a software glitch? Abuzz can be very capricious.

I was curious about the GB you say there, were you on a 6MB account? Cause if so, the math doesn't add up.
