Does any one know who is paying for the national debt.

Obviously the US has been running consistently huge federal government deficits but apperently private debt is even higher.
Where is all this money coming from- Are the Chinese and Japanese really "lending" us all this money?
Arent the Chinese at least, supposed to be poorer than us?

China and the Social Security Trust Fund own most of it.

@llKool,
Think of credit as a commodity. We sell out reputation for paying debts to the Chinese. They get dollars in return (hard currency) that allows them to buy on the world market. The dollars come from our expanding economy and taxes.

@roger,
Everybody seems to forget the business cycle expecting straight growth. Always cycles, always will.
