Jes, there is no subject line either. I will make a rule for certain words in the body. That will have the added effect of blocking bad jokes that I've heard 50 times already Wink Thanks.

I finally got a response from my ISP that they are working on it.

Timber, I like your idea. I'll see if I can make it work.

What I do, Swimpy, is sort by "From", with "Subject", "Size", and "Time Recieved" in the succeeding columns. I do have a "Whitelist" folder that automatically gets stuff from certain senders I have "preapproved", such as freinds, family (well, some of 'em anyway Twisted Evil ), business contacts, and subscribed alerts and newsletters, but the rest goes through the manual "look-decide-keep-or-delete" process. Most absolute junk is readily identifiable, with a little experience, through particulars either in the "From" or "Subject" line. I use Select + Shift to highlight and delete huge blocks of the crap at a time. It really takes just a few minutes to do.

I always just delete the bulk mail folder without looking.

Maybe I should look more.

(Did it for a while, wasn't ever anything important, since I get a zillion of 'em a day, stopped looking.)

I'm VERY VERY happy with Yahoo that they stopped counting bulk mail towards your quota. I used to have to get to Kinko's while on trips just for that reason, to deal with bulk so I wouldn't go over quota.

I realize that I could solve these problems by starting fresh, but like osso, I LIKE my email address, have had it for something like 7 years now, still get missives from long-lost friends ("I doubt you still have this address, but...") and for now prefer to just deal with the spam annoyances. Which, btw, are mostly from a) having my email address on the web (early on, related to my business), and b) using it with businesses who SAY they keep the information private but so don't -- never give your real email address to Realtor.com!!!

It seems like at some point it just became, since some spammers have it, all spammers have it. Sigh.

I agree... the junk mail filters on some email accounts is quite effective. There is also a "safe list" that can be used. Maybe you should just get a new email account.

(Hiya, Soz)

I really don't want to get another email address. I already have three. That should be enough for a little person like me. I use Outlook express, which allows me to set up rues and create folders like junk mail. I have never needed to do this before as my ISP did a really good job of eliminating spam.

I suspect I'm getting these because some of the people I correspond with still forward emails, headings and all rather than copy the body of the message and pasting into a new message. If any of you still do that, please stop.

A friend of mine used to receive endless e-mails of the penis extension variety Shocked , etc. As she didn't visit porn sites (to the best of my knowledge) she put it down to regularly visiting an online "match maker" site. Endless efforts to remove the spam were unsuccessful & she became almost phobic about using the internet. The only solution her provider could suggest was to change her e-mail address. I'm not sure if that worked or not.

Hi Olga,

I'm used to getting that kind of spam on my hotmail account but this is my private email address that I don't give to very many people. It isn't even the content that bothers me so much as the fact that there is no sender and no subject. I couldn't figure out how to block this. I don't think it has anything to do with visiting porn site, because I don't, or any other sites for that matter. I'm not sure how these folks got my email address, but I'm going to try to block them if I can.

Well, I haven't made a "whitelist" but I did block messages that contained certain offensive words in the body. So far, I haven't gotten anymore of this no name, no subject messages. I think I'll sit tight for a while before doing anything else.

I haven't gotten any more of those types of email since I set up a rule that blocks mail containing certain words in the body of the message. I don't know of any way to scan the emails without opening them. I trust you have anti-virus software that is updated.
