JM: Huh? It depends on what type of rock. Most are not given 'chemical' names, but rather rock names that imply a certain range of chemistries. Did you have one specific rock in mind?

Cheers

See in your Avatar ?
Just near the bottom of that tree ?
Well it's the rock just to the left of the brown one with the beetle crawling over it.
See ?

Besides silicon, calcium and oxygen, nearly all the elements are found occasionally. Often the elements are chemically combined, plus different sections of the same rock can have different elements. Rock hounds have given thousands of them names. Some are semi precious such as jade, opel and flint. trace elements give them interesting colors and paterns. Neil
