Well the title may be misleading but I am looking for an iPod-type player. However teh iPod is too expensive and frankly I don't have a need to put 5000 songs on something. I am looking for a hard-drive player that i can get for around 100-130 dollars. I only need to hole 700 or so songs anyways (like 2-3 gbs). Does anyone know of any? Every competitor i find holds 5000 songs or so and thus is very expensive.
The iPod mini holds a couple GB and can be had for a bit over 200 if I remember correctly.
I have a Creative Zen Nomad and they are cheaper than the iPods equivalents but still above that price range.
I'd say the RIO Cali 256MB Digital Audio Player which varies in price and lists at $180.00 -- J & R Music is a good online store at $149.99with free shipping right now:
J & R MUSIC RIO MP 3
There are none that I know of as low as your price range that I'd consider reliable.
You can also find it through our portal at amazon.com (click on the Shop link above) and this site will get credit for it. There are links to the right for various prices new and used.
Here it is in our Shop:

There are others there including a Creative Labs that Craven has noted as low as $137.95.

Hard drive base MP3's?
Well try the muvo range or my personal choice the Archos Gmini 20gb SP
Much better value than an ipod and more features too.
