I thought it was cats that made demands and that puppy's provided undemanding affection.

Joanne, do you mean demand to game, or on a sluff?

To game of course. What would demand on a sluff be?

yes.
The demand to game bids I'm not clear about...maybe if someone could highlight this subject.
I know that jump bids are out of favor now or they show weak hands...the whole impetus is on slow careful bidding to investigate all the possibilities.
For example: you used to see 1sp-3h to show a big hand. Nowadays it's 1sp-2h and so on..with responder asking for aces and determining how high the contract will go.

Well maybe I am not so out of touch after all I bid Aces after the intial round.

In the past, like more than 20 years ago some people played what the called a week club bid, a fake bid as a demand for a major. I never used that convention as it always seemed to get people in trouble.

I also do not favor the 2 opening as a demand either high or low as things can get out of hand.

On the other hand if you play with a regular partner and know their bidding conventions are not so necessary.

I noticed at Yahoo bridge they have a lot of standard American. I guess that means Goren?

no Joanne, SAYC (Standard American Yellow Card) is the most prevalent system in use now. It includes these features:

Weak 2 in D-H-S. 6 trumps and 8 to 10 points depending on vul.

2 clubs strong (22-23)

Stayman-asking for a 4card major after 1 nt or 2nt opening

transfers after 1 nt open

Yikes Stabdard American Yellow Card is SAYC, never heard of it. Stayment is the same.

I see I have some studying to do.

My user name for bridge is fanofmiro. Last night I got yelled at because one of the opps was an art fan too. And we chatted about art, picasso and Guernica and stuff. Enough to drive any bridge table to the edge. And we were winning.

Picky, picky, picky.
