Hi sozobe -- I'm so glad you're here!! I was keeping my fingers crossed for TUOE, but no matter how many times I typed it into the Dictionary website, it just wouldn't work!!

Now, I'm looking for a plant that begins with an L

Liquor would be ALE

Plant would be L _ _ _

E _ _ _ A L _ _ _

LIME would be EIMEAL _ _ _

I can't find a plant that begins with LU or with LY

I'm looking at the LA section now!!

Very Happy

Hmm, that means the # 6 spot is definitely a Y (either RYE or YUCA).

That also means the plant starts with a "y", and the liquor has a "y" in the middle. Offhand, it seems like there are more plants that start with "y" than liquors with "y" in the middle, so I'd pursue "rye" plus another plant that starts with "y".

(Hi PaL! Didn't see ya there.)

Plus, once we get those two things, the first 6 letters are taken care of, so the rest should be easy. Very Happy

I tried to use YULE (as in Yule Log?).... but that didn't work.....

Bib's sentences, up above, have clues in them. I was thinking that if 'dry' was a clue, that would work for RYE (not only do they rhyme, but a 'rye' sense of humor is a 'dry' sense of humor?)

I think 'milked' was a clue, and I think 'drip-fed' was a clue. 'Milked' might be a clue for 'cowslip', but that's more than 4 letters. Or, maybe it's a clue for the language???

Oh Dear, I can't find any more plants that begin with the letter Y.

Very Happy

huff huff puff puff Breathlessly rushing to get here .

EUCALYPTI

Lye - the liquid obtained by leaching wood ashes

Yuca - shrubby tropical American plant

Tupi - language of South American people living along the coast of Brazil, or the Amazon River valley, and in Paraguay

TEAMWORK - that's what did it Laughing And Bib thought he had us beat.

It was yuca that gave it to me.

Congratulations Raggedy!

EUCALYPTI is the answer

LANGUAGE = TUPI
LIQUOR = LYE
PLANT = YUCA

Nine different letters were A, C, E, I, L, P, T, U and Y.
Four vowels were A, E, I and U.

Terrific team effort - well done!
