www.space.com have a periodic astronomy article. This link brings you to an article about the North Star/The Star of Bethlehem and discusses various ideas of what it might have been. Also discussed are adaptions to conventional thinking as to when Jesus was born.... Pretty interesting.

well. I thought it was interesting.
And so it was, little k. Two or three planets converging to create the illusion of one bright star. Fascinating stuff. But I still don't get it as to why the early Christians felt that fixing the date in late December protected them.
