Here's the assignment:
From each of the following sentences, develop a single sentence illustrating the use of the absolute phrase as a free modifier. Use the first sentence as your base clause.

Ex. The plane dropped slowly toward the airport. Its landing lights beamed through the fog.
1 The plane dropped slowly toward the airport,
2 its landing lights beaming through the fog

For various reasons they were eager to get to the beach. Some of them wanted to swim. Some wanted to play handball. Others just wanted to sunbathe.
