I agree, context is everything in these instances. However, i don't believe there is such a word as "severeness"--that's why we have the word severity.

Collins English Dictionary allows it as a synonym for 'severity', although it appears to be unknown in Oxford or Cambridge. I agree that 'severity' is preferable, but a new site to me, onelook.com (a web search aggregator) shows this... (I daresay that some may be safely ignored, and probably some are copies of others)

If "severeness" is used sufficiently often, it becomes an acceptable word by default. However, as i've said, we already have the word severity. This is one of those words, the use of which makes the speaker look rather ill-educated.

The guys are correct about the sentence fragment making a difference.

Not really sure if the word "weather's" is a contraction meaning "weather is" or if it is a possessive.

Makes a difference.
