"Appalachia's Last Snowstorm"

How the children scream and laugh!
in the unexpected manna,
Their merriment goes on and on,

They have rediscovered snowballs,

Oh, they would so love coasting!
--if anyone had had a sled,

Incongruous, the foolish adults',
         weeping
and blubbering about
“White Christmases”,

Meanwhile,
the palms along the Dan and New
shiver

and smirk at befuddled alligators.
