Before I got to General Motors I was the chairman and CEO of AT&T, based in my adopted hometown of San Antonio, Texas—that’s about as far away from Detroit as a guy can get, in more ways than one.
What does the end of this sentence mean? -“that's about as far away from Detroit as a guy can get, in more ways than one."

He means that San Antonio is far away from Detroit in physical terms, in distance, and that it is very, very different from Detroit in terms of the climate, the culture, the social life--whatever he considers important in life. The idea is that San Antonio is far from Detroit in the literal sense, and far away from Detroit in a figurative sense.
