Yost went to wash his feet in the Colorado River when he found a bag, which just so happened to be worth $77,000.

And following a vote at the Bastrop city council last night, the lucky homeless man was told he could keep the stash.

However, Mr. Yost was left having to celebrate his new found wealth in prison.
He has since been jailed for public intoxication and criminal trespass, but this is certainly something to look forward to once released.

Found this amusing!

@FOUND SOUL,
About like the guy in London that studied "The Knowledge" for years for a permit to drive a taxi. He passed the exam, and son of a gun, out he went to celebrate. He then lost his license for drunk driving.

@FOUND SOUL,
I hope this windfall is something that can turn his life in a more positive direction, and I hope there is someone available to him to help him manage it.

Being in jail will give him time to sober up. Smile

I believe it's considered "income" and thus would be taxed at the regular IRS rate.

@Lustig Andrei,
I thought it would be something like that, and then after taxes and bail money and fines he might end up with about 45 grand Cool

@jcboy,
Ah, but it might be offset by free room and board - depending on how long a sentence he's received.

Try to be a little more positive, okay?

@jcboy,
And I hope he has the wit and wisdom to prepay at least 90% of his federal tax liability. Otherwise, he will be subject to underpayment penalties. Being positive again, that wouldn't affect eligibility for future employment as Secretary of the Treasury.
