Diane Feinstein's upcoming bill is aimed at pistols as much as at "assault weapons"; she wants to get rid of semiauto pistols with detachable magazines:

“That’s right, after all the criticism of the AR-15 and the holier-than-thou speeches about how no one needs a military-style rifle with a 30-round magazine the details of the ban betray a gun grab that includes semi-automatic pistols that use “a detachable magazine” and have “one military characteristic.” This can only mean that the most popular handguns in the world for both civilian and military use are being targeted. These would include Glocks, Sig Sauers, Smith & Wesson M&Ps, H&K, and Colt, yet would by no means be limited to these handguns alone.”
Problem is, that's most of the handguns in the world and nearly all of the pistols which anybody uses for conealed carry.
The question is, how will such an idea play in Peoria?? The answer:

Quote:So how would Piers Morgan fare with his proposed constitutional amendment to repeal gun rights? Amazingly, nearly three-quarters of Americans agree on handguns, anyway … but not with Piers Morgan. According to the latest Gallup survey taken within days of the Newtown massacre, a record number of Americans oppose a handgun ban, 74/24:
This is despite the fact that a pistol with detachable magazines is probably the best possible firearm for perpetrating massacres of course. The people simply don't care i.e. as I do they view that as a (statistically) small price to pay for the freedoms which have thus far prevented things like naziism and communism from happening here.
That (the fact of gun control rightfully being a dead issue here) of course is more reason for looking into Charles Krauthammer's claim that we need to return to the lunatic-control regime of pre-1970.
