Is this proper usage of the semicolon?

Is it proper usage of the semicolon to state the following:

"I cried too; it's a sad novel."
"I cried too; it's a mesmerizing autobiography."
"I love it; it's my new favorite painting."
"I hated it too; it's a poorly written and presumptuous article."

Are these statements correctly punctuated with semicolons? Are these statements correctly punctuated in general?

Looks ok to me, Chan. I've always understood the semi to separate what would otherwise be complete sentences but which bear a more intimate relationship than implied by the period

Instead sometimes the comma is used there, technically wrong I guess but having an even more pronounced such effect
