Is the location important for a fuse along a DC cable. Can it be located anywhere, if the cable is a meter long, and carries a high DC voltage 250v 15 amps?

Sash I'd probably locate it near the source so if it should blow from a temp surge for instance, the rest of the cable would remain dead
