Bib, you're sure about #3 and 7? Pail/ lip works for basket/ body part, but that makes the vowels in the #2 and #3 positions.

I think we should continue until we get it. AND, I think you should continue to drops us some hints. Maybe we could work on #s 3 and 4 at the same time?

Yes, Little K. We need hints. I wish Bib would give us a hint to the body part.

You guys are way ahead of me! But I'll try to catch up...

Have you tried these body parts?:
abs
dug (somewhat insulting, I admit)
gum
ova
pec
pia

I'll try fitting them in to the rest of the clues...

if we go with pet fish.... gold, goby, hawk, tang, cory.... and those are just the ones with the vowel in the letter3 spot and with no duplicate letters.

Could some of the confusion be caused by cultural differences?

carp's been one of my fall-backs for the whole of this mess!

I gave up two days ago. When you get the body part, you just have to add one letter to get the basket. But I can't get the body part. Crying or Very sad

Ok, I think I've got it. Shocked

GRUNTLING
The fish is a ling. (that's what got me there)
The insect is a nit.
The body part is a gut.
And the basket is a trug. (I never heard of that - had to look it up.)

All of your posted thoughts helped! Thanks! (assuming I'm correct, that is...)

<pulling out hair>

The basket is the part that's just killing me.

insects with a vowel in the middle and the first and third letters different:
nit
bug

body parts with a vowel in the middle and the first and third letters different:
rib
gum
bum
pec
leg
lip
lid

fish with a vowel in the second spot and the first, third and fourth letters different:
carp
ling
gold
hawk
tang

Don't forget 1 and 9 are the same letter, so the first letter of the body part is the same as the last letter of both the fish and the basket. So carp and pec would work, except that there are no other duplicating letters (beyond 1 and 9). Ling or tang could work with gum.

Does a Y count as a vowel or a consonant???

What about gut for the body part? Ling is the fish. Use nit for the insect. The basket is a trug.

Then we get - AHA -

GRUNTLING!!!
